Oct 28, 1990 - Oct 21, 2009

Our beloved son and brother, Chris Erick Despain, passed away in Chandler, Arizona, on October 21st, 2009 at age 18. Friends and family of Chris are invited to attend funeral services held Saturday Oct 24th at 10:30am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on 800 W Chandler Heights, Chandler, Arizona. There will be a viewing prior to the funeral service at 9am. A gravesite service will also be held at 2pm October 26th at Lindon City Cemetery at 570 N 200 E Lindon, Utah.
As Chris’s family, we’d like to leave a tribute to his life and thank all the friends and family whose prayers and support have been offered in his behalf. Chris was a beloved son, brother, and friend whose passions and talents we celebrate. We remember the joyful times we were able to share with him on this earth and in this life, and we know that we will be able to share more beautiful experiences with him in the life to come in a better world. As many of you know Chris has struggled with some significant trials and challenges over the past few years and has now chosen a more peaceful path. We mourn his untimely passing and will miss him so much here, but trust in faith that he will find the peace and rest he desired until we can once again be in his company.
Chris was born on October 28th, 1990 in Provo, Utah to our family of five anxious siblings who couldn’t wait to meet their new little brother. Chris was a happy and energetic toddler who always brought a smile to our faces with his funny “caritas” and seemingly endless enthusiasm. As the youngest, Chris grew up strong enough to keep up with the outdoor adventures of his dad and three older brothers and endure the overly loving adoration of his mother and two older sisters. Some of our fondest memories with Chris are in the time spent outdoors rock climbing, fishing, camping, and boating, and in the everyday moments of family life. Chris also loved to travel and had the opportunity to visit several countries in South America in his lifetime. Though Chris had a natural ability for sports and even excelled in gymnastic acrobatics, his passion as a youth always gravitated toward music. Chris loved playing the guitar with his dad and brother Casey, and in his teenage years perfected his technique and performance so vigilantly to surpass their skill and become an exceptional guitar player with the pursuit to play professionally. When Chris was just 12 years old he started a band with his friends and began backyard performances for crowds of friends and schoolmates. When Chris later moved to Chandler, Arizona, he was accepted as one of the youngest students of the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences where he studied professional audio recording and production. Chris loved learning about the technicalities of the music industry and immediately put his newfound knowledge and school software to work creating his own compositions and arrangements looping rhythms he played himself on his guitar and keyboard. He was even hired by his brother-in-law’s company to create instrumental tracks featuring Brazilian capoeira instruments. Chris never failed to surprise us with the level of musical talent he exhibited in the compositions he’d share, some of which have been uploaded for friends and family to enjoy on his page at Facebook.
Though we looked forward to so many more years with our dear Chris, as a family, we find comfort in knowing that he will no longer be subject to the daily hardships he endured that limited the happiness and potential he wanted for himself. Chris, you will be sorely missed, and just as that happy day you came into our lives, you will have two loving parents and five siblings anxiously waiting the day we get to meet our little brother again.
