Operetta--Under Cover Santa

Every year in Eureka the Elementary school puts on a Christmas play called The Operetta. They have done it for over 80 years. Every one in the school is involved. One of the teachers (Cynthia Kirgan) writes a play and each class is assigned different characters. There are parent volunteers (room mothers) that design and make the costumes. I helped with Erik's and Aiden's classes. I love The Operetta, most likely because of the nostalgia of remembering all the years I was in the operetta.
Erik's class were Kangaroo's and Koala's from Australia and Aiden's class were North Pole Policemen (Mounties).

For Erik's costume we made a fleece pajama top and bottom. The girls tummies had pouches to hold their little joeys.  Only the girls had their little stuffed animals on stage. Stephanie and I crocheted the hats. The budget didn't allow for us to buy them, but they were so cute and we couldn't resist spending the time to make them. They were totally worth it.

For Aiden's class we made the jackets out of Felt and buttons from glitter foam.  He also had boots that are not in this picture.  These costumes were easier to make but took longer to get done. It wasn't till the day before The Operetta that we put the finishing touches on. The Kindergarten costumes were done 2 weeks before.

For the afternoon performance we sat in the front row.  Michi was able to come to this performance. Emmitt and Analeigh both sat very good.
Kindergarten Koala's and Kangaroo's from Austrailia

1st Grade Spanish dancers from Mexico
2nd Grade North Pole Police

3rd Grade Penguins from Antarctica
4th Grade Robots from Japan
5th Grade Winter Wizards and Witches
Only towards the end did Emmitt start to get active. I think because he was trying to keep himself awake. Here is trying to make his debut a little early.
6th Grade class had the main speaking parts and are a variety of Characters.
They consisted of Mr. and Mrs. Claus, elves, and the Evil Wizard, to name a few.
At the end of the performance the entire school comes out and they sing a couple songs.  They all did such a good job.  I am so proud of my little boys.
