For the last couple of years Eureka Elementary has put together a book club for all the students. I wasn't sure what to expect but I was absolutely amazed at the effort the teachers and staff put into this event. This year all the classes read books by Roald Dahl. Erik selected "The Enormous Crocodile" and Aiden picked "The Fantastic Mr. Fox." The kids were required to read the book and then create a project for display at the book club party. Aiden and Erik both decided to make a dioramas.
At the party all the teachers greetied the kids while dressed as witches from Dahl's book "Witches" and they were handing out chocolate to the kids to make them turn into mice like the book. They had other students from the High School come dressed up as other characters from the other books. Kodey Hughes (the superintendent) was dressed up as Ms. Trunchbull from "Matilda" and Ron Barlow (former superintendent) as William from "Danny, the Champion of the world." They split the kids up into their book groups and played trivia games from the books they read. After which everyone was able to go into the gym to look at the displays from all the kids and their projects. They also gave each of the students a bag with a little treat from each of the books. The kids all had a blast and said they can't wait until next year.
